There is an optional class (Windows to the World) that often follows The Elements of Fiction. If we are offering it this year, it begins in the fall and runs through the spring semester. Click here to learn more about it.

There are no required materials for this class. My edition of the teacher's guide (2nd ed., 2017) gives me express permission from the publisher to provide each of my own, personal students with the source texts and assignments we will be using.

Students will learn to deeply analyze the elements of fiction using the Socratic method. This class covers plot, conflict, setting, character, and theme, along with literary devices such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, imagery, simile, metaphor, allusion, and symbolism. This class is recommended for building confidence and experience with literary analysis before taking Windows to the World (linked above) although either class can be taken separately.

Students will upload their homework via Google Classroom. Some of it may be self-graded, so they must have access to their own homework documents during class. They may navigate away from the Zoom window if need be. They’ll still be able to hear everything the teacher says during that time.

Online classes meet via Zoom.

If a student is unable to complete the class for some reason, they will still have access to the videos. :)
