Book description from the publisher's website:
Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day, 2nd Edition is part of Apologia’s award-winning Young Explorer Series designed for elementary students. Throughout this homeschool science curriculum, students will learn about the amazing design and characteristics of flying creatures as part of God’s creation. They’ll also be empowered to apply their newfound knowledge as they observe the wonder of flight in their own backyards!
Process and expectations:
Students will read the assignments between classes. During meetings, the class will discuss definitions, review questions, and do experiments together. Note that some of the experiments would be difficult to adequately show in an online setting. Because of that some of the experiments will be assignments for students to complete outside of class while others will be done during class. The majority of the supplies are things every home has. Miss Haring will provide a list of supplies for the assigned experiments. The course does a good job at introducing Scientific Speculation.
NOTE: We believe that all students would benefit from the curriculum's conversational yet rigorous approach to teaching science. However, Apologia's materials are written from a distinctly Christian perspective. Students will be exposed to the Christian worldview while reading the textbook. Students will be able to discuss their religious beliefs at home with their parents, but the teacher's personal beliefs will not be discussed in class. For a better understanding of Apologia's ideology, here is a link to the About page on their website.
This class will advance at the pace of the students, taking longer with some assignments if necessary. The result is that some groups of students may not entirely finish the book. The ultimate goal is retention and understanding of presented concepts, not 100% completion of the course.
